It is that time of the year again. I successfully finished one Camp NaNoWriMo and NaNoWriMo last year. After much hesitation, I have decided to attempt Camp NaNoWriMo this year. It seems to kick start my writing process. I initially intended to create a low magic world. However, I think I am going to go the complete opposite way. I like the huge balls of flame that is capable of devastating armies or the surgical precision of a bolt of lightning. I loved The Tethered Mage. If anything the book showed that fantasy need not be all about magic.
I am considering going through a planning route where I try to outline as much as possible. I will be writing off the cuff too as I am entitled to have some fun too. I strongly believe in my mythology.
I am part of a good discord group called Realm of Wordslingers. We are a group of fantasy writers that grew out of a NaNoWriMo cabin. We encourage each other and help each other develop as writers. One thing I have realised in my writing is sometimes I can have bulky conversations. I will consciously try to have more action. I have decided to relax things this time and go for an hour count rather than a word count. I still fear that this will be tough because Game of Thrones starts on April 14th. The Indian Premier League will also be in full swing. We will be living in the aftermath of Brexit. It will be hard not to blog about it. I have plenty of distractions. It will take a lot of discipline to complete NaNoWriMo. I may end up putting a lot of effort in the first half of the month. I hope I will be able to hit the target. Ideally, I would like to spend my entire target time on writing. Realistically I may end up adding part of the research time into the count too.
As always I welcome your thoughts and comments.
