England whitewashed Australia. I cannot say that it was unexpected. The margin of victory in each of the games. The last match was the closest. There is a resilience to this English side. They won despite playing Sam Curran and Jake Ball. I think David Willey should have played unless there was a valid reason for resting Willey until the start of the Indian series. Irrespective of that England ended the game with more points than they ended with. The low scoring close match boosted Australia’s points bring them significantly ahead of Scotland. I still expect Callum Macleod to hold onto his place at number three unless someone from India is going to do consistently well at that spot. I enjoy seeing Alex Hales play. However I am not sure how long he will be able to claim the number 3 slot. Ed Smith will have his work cut out for him by the time the series against India starts. Ben Stokes will most probably be brought into the side once he gets fit. England need a genuine 6th bowling option. Root is not the solution. Stokes will probably come in at six so Buttler can be tried at three. This is how the teams stand currently.

At the start of the series I would have expected England to win the series but I expected England to end with 7,000 points and Australia with 5,500. This is over a course of five games. Going forward I will be including in my graph teams that have played a minimum of three ODI’s. The data will of course be included.In time I will be increasing this to five ODI’s.

The results of the players are below. In time I will set a threshold for the number of games that a person should play. These ranking system are very dynamic. This is what makes the ranking good. It does not rest solely on past achievements. Again in time I will set a minimum number of games that a person should play.

I feel more confident about this team than the one after the 4th ODI. David Willey has contributed more overall but Billy Stanlake has done better with the ball. His performance against a strong English side is remarkable. I am looking forward to the ODI against India. Quite a few of their really good players failed to make the squad because they failed the Yo-Yo Test. As always I look forward to your comments.
